As a successful and very paid engineer living and working in the greatest consulting engineering city of the world - Houston, TX - I was fortunate enough to experience the great engineering boom ever during the mid to late '70's I found that just as today no matter how good things are they can change almost overnight. I never gave a though to the fact that going from an hourly rate of $7.50  (pretty good for 1975) to a a whopping $32.00/hr rate in less than a year and a half that it could fall just as fast but in 1982 the bottom fell out of the oil business and I had a just as great re-awakening.

Everybody around me in that business found themselves out of work too. Most of us had lived as high as our income. Many as I, went from a $37,000 to $200,000 by '82 we bought boats,  Mercedes Benzes, a new pickups every other year and Corvettes and had expensive hunting leases with cabins or motor homes on them and the toys and equipment to make life great. Then as some will remember most of that went away the $250,00 houses in The Woodlands could not be sold for $80,000 the $50,000 - many as today went back to the banks.

I cowed that I would never be in that position again and luckily I have not, but I am seeing many young people and retirees struggling. I, now retired, remember back to the '80's and see the parallel. Highly educated talent hoping to get a custodial job or driving a school bus and some in Wal-Mart and  some feeling very fortunate getting on at Home Depot ...

I am still able to live on an island canal home and will not have to give up my 30ft Boat because I did something - changed my profession slowly and lived frugally. This I hope to help provide for thousands of others via this website.
